Emerge Program
A gospel shaped community fostering meaningful employment
Parishes within South Western Sydney have been privileged to serve and support migrant members of community in their walk to know and love Jesus Christ.
In the current COVID-19 climate however, many have either lost jobs or are struggling to find meaningful employment.
The Emerge Program was established in 2020, in partnership with ENC to address this need and to provide a vehicle to engage with the broader migrant community in South Western Sydney. It’s how we are actively loving our migrant brothers and sisters in their current hardship.
We work with surrounding parishes who recommend newly arrived migrant job seekers in their ministries. We provide support in resume writing, interview preparation and recommending our candidates to the growing number of our employment partners. We meet with parish partners regularly and conduct Job Ready lunches for job seekers in our networks.

While the 2021 lockdown has been a difficult time, we give thanks for opportunities that it has presented for those in our ministries. We rejoice with Sara* from Lakemba Anglican, who has been placed in her first ever formal employment this week.
Sara commenced her residential Aged Care role with St Basil’s Randwick in August. Sara was referred to us as she was completing her Cert III in Aged Care. We met with Sara to construct a resume and prepare for phone screening and interview. Through partnership with St Basil’s, we passed on Sara’s resume, where she was invited for a Zoom interview, and offered her first official role.
Matt Dodd, minister of Lakemba Anglican, has said this is life changing for Sarah and her family as they continue to find their place in Australia. Sara is actively involved in Lakemba Anglican and enjoys going to their weekly Bible Study.

The lack of financial support available to migrants has provided an opportunity for Anglican Parishes to support this need.
Currently, the key barriers to employment include low English literacy, lack of driver’s licence or vehicle, and lack of appropriate job credentialing.
Since establishing the Program, we have secured committed employer partners to increase employment opportunities, we just need your help in developing the confidence of our brothers and sisters with the right training and a way to get to work.
